ShootingStars Coming soon

Shooting stars, fireballs and meteor showers in the night sky, and now and then a meteorite of HQM ore.

Carbon Oxide v0.1.5 Updated

Overview

ShootingStars brings the night sky to life. Every so often after dark a single shooting star crosses the sky, a fireball flares and breaks into a fan of fragments that burn out one by one, or a meteor shower runs for a minute or so, its streaks all travelling the same way.

The sky is shared: every player sees every meteor, wherever they are on the map.

Meteorites

Now and then a fireball's last fragment reaches the ground and leaves a meteorite: a small HQM ore node, smaller than any the game makes, holding only high quality metal ore. It comes down clear of bases, monuments and other ore, so bare ground gets a chance of ore too. Players are told the grid square it landed in, and the spot is marked on the map for a few minutes. Meteorites last 24 real hours by default and are kept through a restart.

Showers

Showers come in styles named after the real ones — Perseids (fast), Geminids (slower), Leonids (very fast) and Taurids (slow fireballs) — or mixed, or a custom look of your own. Players are told when one starts, and /stars tells them when to look up.

For admins

/stars opens a settings panel: SCHEDULE (the night window, events a night and the mix), LOOK (speed, height, distance, fragments, streak kinds), METEORITES (chance, ore, size, lifetime and where they may land) and TEST, which fires any kind of event on demand or drops a meteorite in front of you. Changes save by themselves.

Languages

English, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese and Simplified Chinese are built in — no lang files to install.

Every download is licensed to you and watermarked with your details.

Features

  • Shooting stars, fireballs that break up and meteor showers at night
  • Seen by every player, wherever they are
  • Four shower styles after the real ones, or your own
  • Fireballs that land leave a small HQM meteorite
  • Meteorites land clear of bases, monuments and other ore
  • Landings announced by grid square and marked on the map
  • Meteorites kept through a restart
  • Settings panel with a TEST tab to fire any event
  • Seven languages built in

Install

  1. Download ShootingStars.cs from My Plugins.
  2. Drop it into oxide/plugins or carbon/plugins.
  3. Grant the permissions:
o.grant group default shootingstars.use
o.grant user <you> shootingstars.admin

On Carbon use c.grant instead of o.grant. Events only happen while someone with shootingstars.use is online, so grant it to everyone.

The file name must stay ShootingStars.cs — Oxide matches it to the class name.

The config is written to oxide/config/ShootingStars.json (or carbon/configs/ShootingStars.json) on first load. Change it from the /stars panel, or edit the file and reload the plugin (o.reload ShootingStars or c.reload ShootingStars).
